Belize Coastal Real Estate is the creation of Mirna Waight and was established to be a reflection of a lifetime of experience and dedication to service. Born in Belize City, she was originally encouraged by her family to pursue a career in law but, after an exposure to the Tourism and Hospitality industry, at the time a very small and neglected part of the Belizean economy, at age 19 she was hooked. This interest became her passion and led her first to the Bahamas, then to the US, then the Virgin Islands, Hati and many other countries. During that time her gift for numbers, engaging personality and drive took her down many paths as the financial side of the hospitality industry consumed much of her professional life.

By 25 she was manager of two hotels, the largest dive operation in the Caribbean, and had successfully run Marinas, restaurants, bars and a consulting company. Over the course of her hospitality career she worked as Corporate Controller for a startup hotel management company that rose to 21 properties and later as one of the key executives for the largest development companies in Florida overseeing all finances and project accounting for 42 companies, this, her first taste of the real estate business, was to prove prophetic.

Coming full circle Mirna returned to her homeland Belize almost 20 years ago and needing something to do, used her love of sports and Yoga Instructor certification to start a Yoga studio focused on therapeutic Yoga which she ran for the first 5 years while also teaching tennis and sports for a private school. She is one of the first Belizeans to earn certification from the International Tennis Federation as a Level One Tennis coach, she is also certified Volleyball coach. At the same time, she took over and ran the country’s oldest social club, with tennis courts, bar and restaurant. After 6 years in Belize City fate brought Mirna to San Pedro where she was enticed to try her hand at real estate.

That first stab at real estate opened a new path for her energies and her hard work, ability to relate to both buyers and sellers by drawing on her extensive knowledge of business and experience in many countries made her an instant success. After 5 years at the company, she rose to Managing Agent at the brokerage and then to buying it out. Her 11 years in the business, local knowledge, extensive business experience, history of giving back to the community and helping to grow both the real estate industry in Belize and the hospitality industry through her work with government has given her a stature and insight that is unique in the industry. Belize Coastal Real Estate began life as Sandy Point Real Estate and originally was a non-affiliated company that was to be a vehicle to manage the real estate sales, and re-sales for the properties in the Sandy Point Resorts family of properties. From this base the company also offered real estate services to other properties on the island of Ambergris Caye.

Always an independent brokerage, initially the company benefited from the association with the popular Sandy Point Resort. As time went on however the scope of listings and business outside the Sandy Point Resort properties grew to eclipse the Sandy Point Resort connection and it was the cause of confusion in the marketplace as people identified the company as being a part of the Resort company.

When Mirna Waight bought the Sandy Point Real Estate brokerage, she felt the time had come to clearly define the company as an independent company and rebrand with a name and look that better showcased the broad reach of the company, its diverse listings and the strengths they posses in servicing the real estate needs throughout the country of Belize and its coastal regions. The company still has the Sandy Point Resorts confidence to showcase and market their listings and work with their guests but Belize Coastal Real Estate is our new name, our new identity and with an expanded direction that leaves no doubt that we are independent and have the expertise and reach of a large full-service brokerage.
